Richmond County’s public libraries, once individual community libraries, became a county system in 1978 and a department of county government in 2001. Citizen donations helped build modern city-owned buildings in Rockingham, Hamlet, and Ellerbe.
The county-city partnership funds library operations and functions as a member of the Sandhill Regional Library System. Each branch library offers many programs and services free to the public, including: weekly story times, 24/7 Wi-Fi access, computer access, books and digital media for check out, family programs, reference, reader’s advisory and technology service, and much, much more.
