Do you know what to do during an emergency and are you prepared? Now is the time to put your emergency kit together. Emergency kits are items placed into a container that will be needed after an emergency. Most of these items can be found within your home. It is recommended to put enough food, water, and supplies in the kit for three to seven days for each person and pet.
The Richmond County Health Department will be distributing free Zika prevention kits. The prevention kits will provide education about the virus and a list of steps that can be taken to avoid mosquito bites and keep the insects from multiplying around homes. Mosquitoes can carry a range of diseases including: Zika, West Nile Virus, Dengue, Lacrosse Encephalitis, and Eastern Equine. The Richmond County Health Department encourages residences to reduce mosquito breeding chances by emptying standing water from flowerpots, buckets, pool covers, and bird baths weekly. Please stop by our office to pick up your kit today.
